Diffuse X-rays with a strong 6.7 keV iron line observed in the galactic ridge may possibly indicate that the interstellar matter is heated by shock waves generated by an explosion in the galactic nucleus, as suggested from large radio lobes of Ω-shape. X-ray halos observed for some spiral galaxies may also be interpreted in the same term.
