Normal neutron matter is investigated in the context of the mean field approach, for small deviations from equilibrium. Quantum corrections of the mean field description are introduced in the framework of Marumori's boson expansion. A discussion of the relevance of the processes n ↔ p+π^- and p ↔ n+π^+ to generate an instability of the Hartree-Fock vacuum is presented. The importance of anharmonic processes is considered.
