A Simplified Model of Phase Transition in Amorphous Antiferromagnets. III : XY and Heisenberg Spins : Condensed Matter and Statistical Physics

A Monte Carlo study is made on a simplified two-dimensional model of amorphous antiferromagnets with continuous spin symmetry. The model consists of classical XY or Heisenberg spins with antiferromagnetic couplings put on a spatially-random "triangular-square lattice", which is a closed-packed assembly of equilateral triangles and squares. It is found that the XY model exhibits a phase transition which is ascribed to an order-disorder transition of chirality, while individual spins do not freeze even at low temperatures. In the Heisenberg model, phase transition does not occur either in static or in dynamical sense. The obtained results are compared with the properties of Ising amorphous antiferromagnets and of regular-triangular-lattice antiferromagnets.
