We study pion-nucleus elastic scattering the GeV region within the Galuber theory. For the use of the forward multiple scattering approximation, the pion-nucleon scattering amplitude is parametrized in the Gaussian form. The calculated results are compared very well with the ^<12>C and ^<40>Ca data at the laboratory momentum of k=0.8 GeV/c.
