A Note on the Vertex Functions in the Path-Integral Formulation of Strings : Particles and Fields

We calculate the Weyl anomaly of the contraction between two derivatives of the string coordinates using Polyakov's regularization, and derive constraints for the polarization tensors in general vertex functions used in the path-integral formalism of string theory. In the conformal coordinate the vertex functions are shown to be equivalent to the vertex operator in the conformal field theory of Friedan et al. Scattering amplitudes for any number of tachyons and one general particle are calculated in the tree approximation, and the constant factors in the vertex functions and the weight factor in the path integral are calculated from the factorizability requirement for the tachyon scattering amplitude.
