On the Superfluid Transition of ^4He in Restricted Geometries : A Model for ^4He in Zeolite

The superfluid transition temperature T_c is calculated in 4^He system in a model substrate of zeolite which shows the crossover of dimensionality between 1D and 3D. In this calculation, the characteristic length l of the substrate is relevant as well as those of particles, i.e., the average interatomic distance d and the hard core diameter σ. At lower densities d≫σ, T_c is insensitive to l and is to be compared with T_<cb>, the transition temperature of 3D system. At higher densities d≳σ, on the other hand, T_c becomes sensitive to l and is much reduced as T_c〜(σ/l)T_<cb> due to the crossover to 1D.
