Nonlinear Wave Propagation in Gravity Theory with the General Lovelock Lagrangian

We study the propagation character of nonlinear waves obeying the gravitational field equations generated from the Lovelock lagrangian. Wave propagation under a typical situation induces no shock-like discontinuity in the metric tensor, hence the terms of higher order in curvature can avoid the ill-posed initial value problem.
