The mass term in a simple Lagrangian model for the sub-hadronic fields (urbaryons or quarks) is studied In the case of chiral-type interactions the bare particle mass m_0 of them is estimated to be strikingly small under two essentially different ways of approximations. The non-relativistic treatment leads to m_0≈μ (the pion mass)/2 in the static limit. On the other hand, the soft pion limit with the use of commutator-saturation-approximation, which seems to be reasonable in the spirit of the PCAC relation yields a result m_0≈μ2√ <2>Physical implications of these results are also discussed.
