The backward π^±p scattering is analyzed using the Regge pole hypothesis of a nucleon and π-N resonances. The residue function is determined from the resonance parameters (mass, width and elasticity). Qualitative agreemement with experiment is obtained. In particular the difference between the π^+p and π^-p scattering is explained.
