A Remark on the Symmetry Approaches to Strong and Weak Interactions

In the unified approaches with higher symmetry to strong and weak interactions, consistency of theories is questioned in the symmetry limit. A crucial point of discussions is connected with the origin of weak interaction or the relative importance between weak and symmetry breaking interactions. We have examined the point in the SU(3)-model with RP-invariance. Consistency of this theory in the absence of the symmetry breaking interactions requires that the weak hamiltonian of the conventional form (current-current type or current time intermediate boson) must be modified to include the bare two-body weak interactions in such a way that none of, or none except the unitary singlet, of the above transitions appear in the theory. The two-body transitions just mentioned are connected with a pair of fields belonging to the same mass-multiplets of the SU(3). It is argued that this sort of the modification has to be made in any other models. As an example of the immediate consequences of our modification, the pole approximations in the non-leptonic decays of hyperons are discussed from the viewpoints of both the conventional and the modified schemes.
