Recently the second sound velocity of liquid helium II has been measured below 1°K by means of paramagnetic cooling.^<1)>The result is that the velocity shows a minimum about 1.15°K and then rapidly increases as temperature decreases. This seems at first sight to support Landau's theory^<2)>rather than Tisza's prediction.^<3)>The further investigation reveals, however, the fact that Landau's theory will meet with some difficulty, on the other hand, in explaining the mechano-caloric effect. It is the purpose of the present paper to criticize these theories in this connection.
