The pressure dependence of the second sound velocity in liquid helium II is explained by taking account of the phonon entropy on the basis of the models of Tisza and Landau. To calculate the velocity we make use of the generalized formula derived by Gorter and Usui, according to which, however, the second sound velocity at the absolute zero of temperature in Landau's model is √3 / 4 times the ordinary sound velocity. The discrepancy between this value and that predicted by Landau is due to the different assumptions made on the entropy and the relaxation time.
