A unified treatment of the non-ohmic conduction in piezoelectric semiconductors is presented. The transport equations for electrons and phonons are derived for the system of the Frohlich Hamiltonian from a hierarchy of equations for the Wigner distribution functions and their correlation functions. They clarify the role of long-wave phonons and of high-frequency phonons in the non-ohmic conduction. The role of long-wave phonons is described as a wave field and the other is described as quasiparticles. The macroscopic results are derived for the phenomena due to the amplification of long-wave phonons only.
