We study the effects of the nonlinear terms in the equation of the motion for the condensate on parametric resonance in the λφ^4 model. The cases of no expansion and one-dimensional expansion both with and without friction are treated. The equation for the fluctuation field (soft mode) is derived in the case that the condensate moves periodically around the bottom of the potential. We obtain expressions for the magnitudes of the amplifications (exponents) at a certain time and compare them with numerical results. We find that the fields are amplified in cases of weak friction and that the derived expressions of the exponents are useful to judge whether or not parametric resonance occurs in the time evolution of the system.
