The synthesis of nuclear DNA and RNA in various tissues of Bombyx larvae during the 1st to the 2nd molting stage was examined by means of autoradiography. In the epidermis and the traches, DNA synthesis occurred at the later half of feeding stage and the molting stage. In the cells of muscle and the Malpighian tube, DNA synthesis was also detected in the middle of feeding stage and in the molting stage. In the silk gland and the columnar cells of the midgut, the synthesis continued throughout the molt cycle. In the fat body and the nervous tissue, the synthesis occured at several times during the cycle.RNA synthesis continued throughout the larval molt cycle in all tissues examined. The rate of nuclear RNA synthesis seems to be positively correlated with the secretory activity of each tissue.
