Biochemical changes were observed in the tissue of Chinese cabbage leaf injured by the bug Lygus disponsi. The dry weight percentage of the injured tissue increased just after the infestation period (5 days), maintained this increased level until the 6th day and then decreased to the control level on the 9th day. The quantity of phenolic compounds increased one day after the injury period, but decreased sharply towards the control level on the 3rd day. Peroxidase and polyphenol oxidase activities showed marked increase on the 1st day after the injury period, but dropped rapidly towards moderately high level on the 3rd day and mintained this level on the whole until the 21st day. Acid phosphatase activity rose strikingly soon after the injury period, but dropped quickly to the control level on the 6th day.These change courses were more or less different from those in the case of sugar beet.
