The purpose of this study is to make it clear that the management used the sports system and intervened in it in Nakajimakogyo while company sports were fromed there. We also analyze the consequent semi-professionalization of the company sports and consider what sort of conditions were necessary for the formation of the sports system. We take the Nakajimakogyo Baseball Club from 1920 to 1923 for an example. The baseball team of Nakajimakogyo was organized by Tokumatu Nakajima, the president of Nakajimakogyo, in 1920. He aimed to utilize the symbolic aspect of baseball, make propaganda using star player's fame and educate the laborers by means of sportsmanship and fair-play spirit. The sports system in Nakajimakogyo was a typical one and its semi-profissional baseball team suppleid a model for other baseball teams in the Taisyo era. Modern Japanese company sports began with it. Nakajimakogyo guaranteed broken-time payment and promoted semi-professionalization. They permitted their baseball club members to go out to play games on business and so reduced their working hours. It meant that they made economic intervention in the sports system. Afterwords, their method was followed by other companies in organizing baseball teams in the Kitakyusyu district.
