Laboratory tests were carried out on the erosion of chamott and silica brick with the Luppeslag, in order to investigate the eroding action of it on the refractory lining of the rotary kiln in the Krupp-Renn process. Statical and rotating tests were accomplished at the temperature range of 1,350°〜1,450℃, at the rotating rate of 100〜300 r. p. m. and for interval of 2〜4 hr. The results obtained from these tests showed that the erosion of the fire brick was caused rather by the dynamical element of the abrasion than by chemical reactions. In this experiment, fluidity of the slag and rotating rate were much effective in the eroding action, and the maximum erosion rate was obtained in the case of 1,400℃ and 300 r. p. m. Under our experimental conditions, silica brick was more resistant against eroding action than chamott brick in rotating tests.
