Some laboratory tests were carried out on the commercial sinters which were produced by several principal iron works in Japan. Their crushing strength, S. K. porosity and relative reducibility were determined and their structures were also examined microscopically. Relations between the values obtained from these tests and their chemical composition were discussed. From the results, it was found that the most important factor which affected the strength and the relative reducibility of sinters was the oxidation degree of sinters. Correlation between the strength and the oxidation degree, and that between the relative reducibility and the oxidation degree were obtained as follows : S=-0.808(x-90.58)+78.05±2.81 logk=0.0737(x-90.72)+1.7366±0.124 where S : Strength Index, k : comparative reducibility, x : oxidation degree.
