The authors measured the equilibrium of the following reactiors : [chemical formula] Iron samples, whose silicium and carbon contents had been regulated by pig iron and Fe-Si additions, were melted in the silica crucible at the range from 1,500° to 1,600℃ in the atmosphere of CO-CO_2 mixed gas of 0.3% to 1% CO_2. From the experimental results, the following conclusions were obtained : (1) Silicium and carbon contents in molten iron were increased with the decrease of CO_2 content in the atmosphere, and the increasing rate of silicium was greater than that of carbon as the temperature increased. (2) Up to 4% Si and 0.9% C, molten iron was considered as an ideal solution. (3) In the range of the experiments, the following equations were obtained as temperature functions of log K for the above equation (a) and (b) respectively ; [chemical formula] Combining these results and data of the activity of SiO_2 in Al_2O_3-CaO-SiO_2 ternary slag, which were reported by Chang and Derge, some considerations were performed on the equilibrium of silicium between molten iron and molten slag.
