Intensity distributions of the lines of the argon spectrum in vacuum ultraviolet region were measured from 'end on' direction. These lines were emitted from the plasma obtained by passing condensed discharges through a capillary tube (10cm long and 2.5mm in inside diameter) containing argon gas. The initial pressure of gas was 0.15 torr. In order to see the contribution of self-absorption to these lineprofiles, ArII λ3588.45,ArII λ4348.06,ArII λ4426.01 were observed from 'side on' direction. And their profiles were compared with those of the same lines of 'end on' observation. In our present examples the mean electron temperature of this plasma was 1×10^<40>K and the mean electron density was 1×10^<14>cm^<-3>. The half-widths of the 'end on' profiles were found to be six or seven times larger than those of 'side on' profiles. The contribution of self-absorption to each profile in the wing region was found to be small.
