The shifts of the ionized helium lines 246S6A (n =4->3) and 23203A (z=5->3)were measured relative to the centers of gravity of the fine structures of theselines. A capillary tube, through which condensed discharge was passed, was usedas a plasma light source. Side-orn observation enabled one to obtain optically thinplasma. In each case the center of gravity of the fine structure lines excited by aliquid-nitrogen-cooled hollow cathode discharge was assumed to be the unper-turbed position. The measured red shifts of the He II lines 24686A and 23203A are0.041 .f0.O23 cm-' and - 1.3 f0.3 cm ' respectively, under the plasma condi-tion of 7V.=(1.6f0.4) x 10" cm ', T.=(2.2i0.3) x 10' K, and 7V.=(1.2:E0.3) x10" cm ', 7'.=(1.3 fO.3) x 10' K respectively. The present results are consistentwith those of Murakawa but not with those of Pittman et at.
