The preparation of polyvinyl alcohol (PVA)-urea composites and the molding condition of PVA-urea composites filled with chamotte were described. PVA-urea composites [ I ] obtained from 0.45 part of PVA, 1.0 part of urea and 3 part of formaline by two stage reaction was well suited to preparate chamotte boards. Flexural strength of the composites filled with chamotte (chamotte/[ I ]=5/1) was found larger than that of gypsum plaster for boards. The flexural strength of chamotte boards increase with increasing content of chamotte and PVA in [ I ]. The boards containing chamotte of 0.15mm in particle size have larger flexural strength than those containing 0.3mm or 0.6mm in particle size.
