The Tang dynasty is said to be the golden age in the field of the development of Chinese poetry. In that age poetry became popular among the ordinary people. Composing poems was to show their intelligence and talents of the people of the day. In that age, female poets also appeared in society. Among them, there included the elite ladies such as empresses and princesses. That included even the courtesans. It can be said that Xue Tao and Yu Xua Ji were the most popular poets. Especially, Xue Tao was the most famous and productive poet in the time with her excellent talent and enjoyed prestige for her exceptionally high quality of poetry. Both openly composed poems of love and pursued their loves in their real lives, though both did so in vain and passed away without fulfilling their love.
