I hope, through this research, to present some alternative measures which may be employed to improve the present English teaching system. Two hypotheses are proposed. 1 . The performance of learning groups where the voice and picture method is utilized is. Superior to the perfornance of learning groups where the voice and letter or voice only methods are used. 2 . Of the groups utilizing pictures ; the performance of groups where voice and pictures are used to represent each individual English sentence is superior to the performance of groups where only one picture is presented to cover an entire section. The results of the formal experiments did not support either the first or the second hypothesis, because the content of the English hearing test and the content of the individual pictures tended to produce conflicting effects, thus preventing the students from giving the correct answers.
