I . The purpose of this study The purpose of this study is to clarify the effectiveness of the three types of " Seminar " style learnig in English classes in the liberal education courses of colleges. In the first style, (a) students describe the contents of a chapter (an independent story) using illustrations and then form nearly twenty questions per group about the pictures (one student draws 3 or 4 illusrations) for a listening test. In the second style, (b) students sing English songs in chorus. In the third style, (c) students complete a treatise " Why should we study English ? " as group work after discussing the subject in the group on the basis of original treatises on the same subject which were written and presented by each student in advance. II . Hypotheses 1 . The students that particpate in Seminar (a) will improve their attitudes and intensify their interest and improve their ability in English Learning. 2. The students that participate in Seminar (b) will intensify their attitudes and interest and improve their ability in English Learning. 3. The students that participate in Seminar (c) will improve their attitudes and intensify their interest and improve their ability in English Learning. III . Results 1. Hypothesis 1 was substantiated. 2. Hypothesis 2 was rejected. 3. Hypothesis 3 was rejected. IV . Discussion Seminar (a) to describe the contents of a chapter (an independent story) in illustrations and then to form nearly twenty questions about the pictures per group, one student draws 3 or 4 illustrations for a listening test, was substantiated . Utilizing the seminar style learning in English classes in colleges may be discussed hereafter. V . Future questions The samples in this experiment were small, so, in the next one, they must be made large (for example, 50-100), so that the result of the experiments could be generalized.
