A curriculum including a subject called "Global Learning Hours", which is to be introduced in and continue after 2003,is now attracting great interest. Therefore, I will list here some attempts being made by SHS's to introduce it, and will also point out and examine possible problems that may occur along with those attempts. The present situation is that most SHS's are confused and wonder what kind of attempts could be made to introduce this new course. They require support by each prefectural Board of Education in trying to design and implement this new course. However, too muck support may possibly spoil the individual characteristics of each SHS, while enhancing those characteristics is one of the main aims of introducing this course. Consequently, I also inspected how the Board of Education will support or guide each SHS's planning and implementation, and how it will cope with the problems that SHS's may face in the future. I sincerely hope that my examination and inspection will serve as a guide to introduce this new curriculum.
