• The sensitivity and the specificity of Detect HIV and Select HIV kits, based on synthetic peptides for human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) infection, were very high, because these kits could discriminate perfectly between HIV-1 and HIV-2 in the confirmed anti-HIV antibody positive panel samples. The type of HIV in Thai, Zambian, Senegalese and Japanese sera was HIV-1,HIV-1,HIV-2 and HIV-1,respectively, in combination with Detect HIV and Select HIV kits. The results suggest the possibility that the infection with HIV-2 is gradually spreading around the world.
