As an analytical method of aldehydes in environments, the solid reactor tube-GC method was in-vestigated. The sample of carbonyl compound is condensed with 2,4-dinitrophenylhydrazine in the reactor tube, which is 15cm long and 1.5cm diameter glass tube filled with 7g glass beads coated with the reagent at 1% w/w, by suction of the air. Then the sample fixed as hydrazones is decomposed with anhydrous phtharic acid of 1.5~2.0 times of the beads amount at 200~220℃ in the N₂ flow in the bottle. The recovered aldehydes and ketones are collected in the sampling tube cooled with liquid O₂ and analyzed by GC. Each step was studied, such as efficiency of condensation, recovery of decomposition and quantitatively of GC technique. It was found that all the low boiling carbonyl compounds except iso-butyl aldehyde and acrolein were able to be analyzed with desirable accuracy at a ppb level. The method of this type was seemed to be useful by application to auto exhaust gas, leakage gases from factories and tabacco smoke, etc.
