We examined relationship between preference of musical-rhythm and physiological changes by using experimental stimuli that controlled a variable to the limit that human could recognize as music. In the first experiment, we examined what rhythmic stimuli were preferred. 56 subjects were all female (ages from 18 to 23, an average of 21.3). We made 16 different stimuli consisted of four quarters and asked what were subjects for judgment of preference. In the second experiment, we used EEG, GSR, ECG as an index and investigated the relations between physiological reactions and stimuli. Subjects sre all females (ages from 19 to 22, an average of 20.4). As a result, there was no significant difference in EEG and ECG, but there was significant difference in GSR (P<.01). We used the stimuli (rhythm) which controlled variables to the limit and a meaningful result was provided. It has the effectiveness as an experimental method of perception and recognition of music. We will continue these experiments using other elements such as melody and harmony as stimuli.
