The purpose of this paper is to examine Pesetsky (1990) to account for the reason why the suffix-ly blocks the inheritance of the complement in a certain type of adjectives. Pesetsky assumes that the null morpheme -SUG will account for the T/SM (Target / Subject Matter) restriction. It may be useful to compare the adjectives like proud, angry, etc. with those like different, independent, etc., when they are predicated of a subject other than a person, for example, a manner. Since the -ly adverbs discussed in this paper are paraphrased as 'in a manner which -----',his assumption of -SUG could have been applied to this issue. This would make sense if his assumption was not extended to the Affectedness Condition, because we do not have to deal with affected arguments but only with unaffected arguments. This may account for the possibility that while his Affectedness Condition fails to account for this issue, his assumption of -SUG nevertheless hints at a viable solution.
