CSMA/CD protocol is attractive because of providing an efficient means for communication in Local Area Networks. But if traffic increases, collisions occur frequently, consequently, the performance of LANS become worse. For this reason, several retransmission algorithms were introduced recently. In this paper, a model of CSMA/CD is defined first. Based on the model, the three primary retransmission algorithms are presented and discussed. Furthermore, the effects of using each retransmission algorithm on the performance of CSMA/CD protocol are compared.
