In order to get the characteristics of externally pressurized gas bearings clear, it should be necessary to investigate the pressure distribution of bearings first. In this report the pressure distribution got from experimental results are compared with Mori's theory, and then a new model of presture distribution is suggested which can give qualitative explanaton to the distribution in various cases. This model by an Analogue Computer made it possible to understand the complicated mechanism of the distribution. And also the statical characteristics of gas bearings were clarified by investigating the load capacity, flow rate, stiffness and the bearing clearance. On the other hand, the authors attempted to get highspeed rotation with the gas bearing and finally the spherical rotor of 3 in. in diameter and 1850g in weight could be driven at the speed of 30,000rev/min and also the maximum speed of 100,000rev/min was attained by a simple device with a cone-like rotor of 40mm in diameter. As a result of experiments, other behaviours of a rotor and the drag of a revolving sphere were explored.
