Enzymatic saccharifications of finely pulverized cedar and rice straw by commercial cellulase were investigated. Japan cedar and rice straw were pulverized by ballmilling machine. Commercially available cellulase of Meicelase was used. The pH, reaction temperatures, reaction time and the substrate quantities were tested. The total reducing sugar was determined by Somogy-Nelson method and sugars were analyzed with HPLC. The formed total reducing sugars of finely pulverized cedar and rice straw were 65.4% and 81.0% respectively. Glucose was main product and other sugars of cellobiose, xylose, mannose were small products. The optimum pH was between 4.8-5.0 and the optipum reaction temperatures were between 50-55℃. The saccharification was completed for about 24 hours at 50℃.
