This study aims to enhance the nature of architectural design, by considering the tendency of architectural designs and expressions of the modern age from the viewpoint of architectural iconology, and also by clarifying the origin of creation by an architect. This second study deals with the Dutch architect, Johannes Ludovicus Mathieu Lauweriks'(1864-1932) drawings and his passionate works in wood block printing during his Dutch period, the establishment of his technique of rational "System Design" during his Dusseldorf period (1904-1909), as well as his other design activities during his Hagen period (1909-1916). My purpose it to clarify how the concept of Theosophy-the idea of integrating the East and the West-attracted Lauweriks in his youth and remained throughout his life : the idea of Theosophy, through the use of the labyrinth motifs--a symbol of life and death, added a lively vividness to his rational System Design ; and at the same time, giving a mathematical orderliness and ratio to the sensuous meandering lines of his works. His drawings do not show an artist's expert touch ; but they eloquently prove that architecture is a vision and a philosophy.
