Development of Geomagnetic Field Observation System at the Tokai University

It is important to observe the geomagnetic field for studying the solar-terrestrial environment physics. We have installed a tri-axial fluxgate magnetometer and a proton magnetometer at the Tokai University Space Information Center located at Kumamoto (22.5°N, 199.7°E in geomagnetic coordinates). Three components and the absolute value of the geomagnetic field have been observed since May 1996 with sampling periods of 1s and 60s, respectively. We have developed the Geomagnetic Field Observation System for the purpose of constructing the geomagnetic field database, and we will provide data analysis tools as well as the geomagnetic data for other researchers. We use the JAVA language to construct the system by use of the distributed object technology. This system makes enable for users not only to access the database but also to analyze the data easily on the system with light load for the served computer. As analysis tools, we have prepared several kinds of plots of time series including numerical filters, and a couple of spectral analyses, FFT and MEM, in which users may set parameters for each analysis.
