In this paper, the results of fall-cone test and vane shear test on kaolin clay mixed with sand are discussed. Unconsolidated undrained strength obtained from vane shear tests are discussed in relation to the strength that are induced from fall-cone test under Kohmoto's theoretical consideration. The results from both tests are generally in close agreement. With the increase of sand in the sample, the calculated strength of fall-cone tests are higher than the one of vane shear tests under low moisture content, and that in to be expected. This behavior is examined in view point of consistency characteristics of soil, especially of liquid limit.
