Advanced fiber-reinforced composite materials have been used for structural members, because of their high specific strength and stiffness. Such composite laminated structures behave differently from homogeneous orthotropic structures due to the effect of lamination constitution. In this paper, the effect of lamination constitution on the buckling stresses of the cross-ply and angle-ply laminated cylindrical shells under bending is analysed by assuming the buckling patterns which exactly satisfy the Flugge-type equilibrium equations. The effects of various factors such as stacking sequence, number of layers, lamination angle, buckling mode and dimension of cylinder, on the buckling strength are clarified.
