<RESEARCH REPORT>HARD X-RAY MEASUREMENTS OF THE HOT ELECTRON RINGS IN NAGOYA BUMPY TORUS (NBT-1M)

Scaling characteristics of the high-beta hot electron ring are experimentally studied. The hot electron temperature T_h and density n_h are measured by the hard X-ray detection system. Typical values of T_h and n_h are 220keV and 3×10^<10>cm^<-3>, respectively. The stored energy of the hot electron ring W_⊥ empirically scales with the applied microwave power P_μ and the ambient gas pressure P_H_2 as W_⊥ ∝ P_μP_H_2^<-1> in the quiescent T-mode. The dependence of the ring stored energy as a fuction of gas pressure in the T-mode can be explained by the simple energy balance equation. In the T-mode operation the temperature is independent of the applied microwave power but the density increases with the power and decreases with the gas pressure.
