The changes seen in the aged skins ;(1) the number of the stratum corneum was increased as many as the xerosis senilis.(2) the number of the stratum granulosum was decreased. And this phenomen was seen in the skins of the persons older than 25-year-old.(3) TEWL at temperature below 18℃ increased more than that in the young.(4) The amounts of the enzymes, SMase and prosaposin, both of which were related to the synthetic pathway of ceramides, were decreased in the aged.(5) Filaggrin, was remarkably decreased, which is the precursor of the emollient factors, free amino acids, and urocanic acid.
