Ceramic disc nonlinear capacitors composed of (Ba0.6Sr0.4)TiO3 and ZrO2-doped (Ba0.6Sr0.4)TiO3 for application in electronic switching circuits have been characterized. The grain size is maximum for (Ba0.6Sr0.4)TiO3 doped with 0.5 wt % ZrO2 content. All samples, including (Ba0.6Sr0.4)TiO3 and ZrO2-doped (Ba0.6Sr0.4)TiO3, are in a paraelectric state at room temperature. The capacitance of the specimens decreases with increasing DC biasing voltage. The variation in the energy reduction ratio of the specimens with ZrO2 content has the same trend as that of grain size. The energy reduction ratio is approximately 42% for (Ba0.6Sr0.4)TiO3 doped with 0.5 wt % ZrO2 content.
