The weevil Curculio albovittatus (Kono) (Coleoptera: Curculionidae) was found to complete its larval stage feeding on a single bean gall produced by Pontania sp. (Hymenoptera: Tenthredinidae) on leaves of Salix sachalinensis Fr. Shmidt in Haga Onsen, Haga Cho, Hyogo Prefecture, central Japan. There was one weevil larva per gall in 32% of the galls sampled. The adult weevil laid an egg on the gall of the Pontania sp. and the hatched larva entered the gall. The inside of the gall wall was heavily grazed by the weevil larva. No sawfly larvae, either dead or alive, were found in the galls parasitized by the weevil. The matured weevil larvae left the galls and pupated in the soil. This unique life history suggests that the C. albovittatus larva is an obligate cecidophage.
