In this paper, first, boundary collocation procedures are applied to the plane elastic problem of a rectangular tensile cracked plate with ends being considered as free from shear and constrained to a uniform vertical displacement. It is shown that the stress intensity factors have two characteristic effects of the specimen-length/width ratio. Second, finite element methods are applied to the crack tip vicinity of the above cracked plate by generalizing small scale yielding concept. In small number of elements and with reasonable accuracy, the size and shape of plastic zone are obtained in terms of the stress intensity factor, yielding stress, crack-length, and width.
