To evaluate the foreign serials collection of the Saitama Medical School Library, the authors, first, analyzed the collection into the publication countries and subject fields, next, compared the distribution of subject fields with those in the three core lists of medical journals: Kondo List, Bell List, and Allyn List.It was found that 47.4% of the foreign serials received by the Library were American, 16.2% were British, and 15.3% were German. It was also revealed that the Library had a relative large number of journals in the field of "Psychiatry & Neurology", while not enough in the fields of "Pharmacology", "Public Health", "Cancer", and "Endocrinology". Finally, comparing Kondo List, Bell List, Brandon List, Abridged Index Medicus List, Allyn List, and Usdin List, the authors concluded that Kondo List was best to examine the quantitative framework of foreign serials collection in medium-sized medical libraries because that Kondo List covered the journals well-balanced both in countries and subject fields as well.
