As a supplement to the previous work on the anomalous hfs. of the spectrum of Al II, the structure of the multiplet $\lambda 3587.4-\lambda 3586.5$ ($3^{3}D$–$4^{3}F$) was studied. The calculated structure of this multiplet was found to be in harmony with that observed by means of interferometers. The triplet separations $\alpha{=}3^{3}D_{3}$–$3^{3}D_{1}$ and $\beta{=}3^{3}D_{2}$–$3^{3}D_{1}$ were found to be $-2.20$ cm-1 and $-1.02$ cm-1 respectively (the $3^{3}D$ term being inverted). The hyperfine energy levels of the $n^{3}D$ ($n{=}3$,4,5) series are represented diagramatically (in Fig. 4) in order to show how they depart from the ordinary coupling $\{(\mbi{L}{\cdot}\mbi{S})\mbi{J}{\cdot}\mbi{I}\}$ progressively towards the coupling $\{(\mbi{S}{\cdot}\mbi{I})\mbi{U}{\cdot}\mbi{L}\}$ as $n$ increases.
