We have developed a nonplatinum system that enables us to dissociate H2 into H+ in high-dielectric media for fuel cell applications. The dissociation energy or binding energy of H2 embedded in dielectric media is proportional to the inverse square of dielectric constant which is closely related to the crystallinity of ferroelectrics, such as BaTiO3. We report here the significant increase in H2 dissociation efficiency by minimizing crystallinity damage during the preparation of fine dielectric powders.
