The effects of rare earth oxides on dielectric properties of BaTiO3 have been investigated. The addition of R2O3 (R: Dy, Ho, Yb) significantly decreased the capacitance change with time under a DC electric field. Yb-doped specimens exhibited the lowest aging rate in the second stage, which is due to the larger population of defect dipoles associated with oxygen vacancies. The DC bias aging behavior of Mn-doped BaTiO3 was also suppressed by rare-earth oxides. The addition of rare-earth oxides led to an increase in the leakage current of BaTiO3. Specimens codoped with rare-earth and manganese oxides showed lower leakage currents with moderate DC bias aging rates.
