In this paper, we report the liquid crystal (LC) molecular orientation dynamics in In-plane switching (IPS) mode studied by birefringence scanning near-field optical microscopy (Bi-SNOM). The electric-field-induced response and relaxation times of LC molecules are measured by recording the changes of retardation and azimuth angle, respectively. The mechanism of LC molecular response and relaxation is investigated. The electric-field-induced hysteresis of LC molecules is profiled along the depth direction of IPS LC thin film.
