A photonic crystal based narrow-band reflection filter is presented to show the idea of wavelength selection. Such a narrow-band reflection filter is formed by placing a point defect near a linear array defect. It is shown that the reflection filter can be tailored to reflect any wavelength of interest by simply modifying the diameters of the surrounding dielectric rods of the point defect. In this paper the wavelength dependence on such diameters is computed by using a fullwave algorithm. Then an optical add/drop multiplexer using such reflection filters is demonstrated, and proves to be suitable for being an optical component for dense wavelength division multiplexed system.
