Novel Transflective Display with Fringe-Field Switching Mode

A novel transflective fringe-field switching (FFS) mode has been studied. In a conventional transmissive FFS mode, the effective $\lambda/2$ retardation is relatively higher ($=0.375$) than that in a reflective FFS mode. In a novel design, the in-cell retarder only placed in a reflective part optimizes retardation and matching electrooptic characteristics in the reflective part with that in a transmissive part. In addition, a multislit angle concept is proposed for the optimization of electro optic characteristics.
